The Faces of KION NA – Chris Ascher, Senior Professional Product - Project Engineer

April 15, 2025
Welcome to a special edition of The Faces of KNA, where we shine a spotlight on the incredible individuals driving innovation and growth at KION North America. In this edition, we're proud to introduce Chris Ascher, our recent Employee of the Quarter. Originally from Linde Material Handling in Germany, Chris brought his passion for engineering and collaborative spirit to KNA in 2022 as an expat, playing a key role in mast production and development. His dedication, positive mindset, and commitment to excellence have made a lasting impact — and we’re excited to share more about his journey, motivations, and perspective in the interview below.
First, how long have you been at KION NA?
I have been at KNA since 2022 but I've known KION much longer. I already joined Linde Material Handling (Germany) in 2012, when I started there as a Mechanical Engineer.
What does winning Employee of the Quarter mean to you?
What shall I say? What a surprise! It means a lot to me and I really appreciate all your support!
What do you enjoy most about your role at KION North America, and what keeps you motivated?
I came here as an expat to support KNA’s new mast production and mast developments. I enjoy most to see how the company is transforming and changing step-by-step to a modern manufacturing plant.
To be part of this transformation from the beginning on is a rare and exciting opportunity which I really appreciate. To see our team grow together and move on to the next level by taking all the challenges is what drives me.
In the length of time you have been at KION NA, what accomplishment makes you most proud?
I’m proud that our first manually welded 1577 mast that was made of American steel passed the durability test in Germany. Even if we haven’t used this steel in series production yet, it clearly showed what we can achieve as a team and it confirmed KNA’s product quality.
What do you think makes an employee stand out in an organization?
There are probably many factors but I’d like to mention positivity. Having a positive attitude helps me to always look forward and never give up especially in tough times. I’m convinced that it also helps your environment.
Which KION Group shared value resonates most with you? (Integrity, Courage, Collaboration, or Excellence)?
Collaboration because simply said “You can do what I cannot do. I can do what you cannot do. Together we can do great things.” - Mother Teresa
What motivates you?
My passion for engineering. It all started when my father took me to technical museums. I was impressed by all things that could move, cars, motorcycles, locomotives (especially powered by steam) and planes.
The fascination and curiosity that were ignited in me as a child is still there and keeps me moving.
Looking to the future, what are you most excited about?
The unknown. The unknown can be scary but also exciting, if you have a positive attitude.
